If you’re looking for a South Bay restaurant with a little history behind the plate, add Rosa’s La Cabaña to your Torrance dining list.
Located on Hawthorne Boulevard, this longtime Mexican restaurant is more than a place to grab a plate of enchiladas or a burrito. It’s a family-run spot with a story that goes back decades, a colorful dining room and a menu filled with the kind of classic comfort food that keeps locals coming back.
A South Bay Restaurant With History
Rosa’s La Cabaña has roots that go back to when the restaurant operated as Freddie’s La Cabaña. Rosa originally worked at the restaurant as a waitress before eventually taking over the business.
Today, Rosa continues to run the restaurant using her mother’s and grandmother’s recipes with help from her family, keeping much of the original spirit of the restaurant intact while adding some of her own dishes along the way.

Come Hungry for the Classics
The menu at Rosa’s La Cabaña covers plenty of Mexican favorites, from tacos and enchiladas to burritos, fajitas, chile rellenos, and combination plates. The restaurant also serves seafood, soups, tostadas, and breakfast dishes.
During our visit, Rosa walked us through some of the dishes that make the menu worth exploring. The Taco Burrito is a particularly loaded option, combining ground beef, beans, rice, lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, and guacamole before being covered with melted cheese and sauce.
Then there’s the Steak Fajitas, served with rice, beans and vegetables for a classic sit-down Mexican dinner. For something covered in plenty of sauce and cheese, the Beef Enchilada is another standout. And if green sauce is more your thing, check out the Pork in Green Sauce, which brings that savory chile verde flavor to the table.
Don’t Skip the Mexican Pizza
One of the more unexpected dishes featured during the visit is the Mexican Pizza. It’s piled with toppings, melted cheese, jalapeños, and a generous dollop of sour cream, making it a fun option if you want to try something a little different from the standard taco-and-enchilada order.
Rosa’s menu also has plenty of options for sharing, so bringing a group and ordering a few different dishes is a good way to get a taste of what the kitchen does best.

A Dining Room That Feels Like Its Own Little World
Part of the charm of Rosa’s La Cabaña is the restaurant itself. The dining room is colorful and filled with Mexican-inspired details, from the bright orange walls and traditional decor to the large mural that gives the space a distinctly old-school feel. There are also plenty of small decorative touches throughout the restaurant that make it feel more personal than polished or overly modern.
Rosa told us that it doesn’t feel like a business to her; it just feels like home, which makes the guest experience so special.
