A Taste of Nayarit Lands in the South Bay: Coni’Seafood Opens in Hermosa Beach

A Taste of Nayarit Lands in the South Bay: Coni’Seafood Opens in Hermosa Beach

If you love bold Mexican seafood flavors, there’s exciting news for the South Bay dining scene. The celebrated mariscos restaurant Coni’Seafood has officially opened a new location just steps from the sand in Hermosa Beach, bringing its famous Nayarit-style seafood to the coast.

Already beloved across Los Angeles for its vibrant ceviches and legendary grilled fish, this third location continues a family tradition that started decades ago, and it’s already making waves with locals and visitors alike.

From Backyard Pop-Up to Seafood Institution

The story of Coni’Seafood begins in 1987 when founder Vicente “Chente” Cossio started serving seafood out of his backyard in Inglewood. Inspired by the flavors of his hometown in Acaponeta, Nayarit, Mexico, he introduced Los Angeles to authentic Nayarit-style mariscos using fresh seafood and family recipes.

Over time, that humble backyard operation grew into one of LA’s most celebrated seafood spots. The restaurant is now run by Chente’s daughter, Conchita “Connie” Cossio, who has expanded the brand while preserving the family’s original recipes and techniques.

Today, Coni’Seafood has locations in Inglewood, Del Rey, and now Hermosa Beach, bringing their award-winning flavors even closer to South Bay seafood lovers.

What Makes Nayarit-Style Seafood Special

Unlike typical coastal seafood restaurants, Coni’Seafood focuses on the bold and vibrant flavors of Mexico’s Pacific coast. Many of the dishes feature ingredients sourced directly from Mexico, including shrimp and seafood imported from Sinaloa and Nayarit to maintain authentic taste.

Expect bright citrus, spicy chiles, fresh seafood, and dishes designed for sharing, just like the lively botanero seafood bars found along Mexico’s coast.

Must-Try Dishes at Coni’Seafood

The Hermosa Beach menu highlights both cold and hot seafood specialties. Here are a few dishes you’ll definitely want to try:

Pescado Zarandeado

The restaurant’s signature dish. A whole butterflied fish grilled over high heat and served with tortillas, onions, and house salsas for building your own bites.

Aguachile

Fresh shrimp marinated in lime with spicy chile sauce, bright, bold, and perfect for seafood lovers.

Ceviche Marinero

A flavorful mix of shrimp, citrus, mango, and savory sauces that balances sweetness, heat, and acidity.

Camarones a la Diabla

Spicy shrimp cooked in a fiery red chile sauce for those who love heat.

Tacos de Marlín

Smoked marlin tucked into corn tortillas with melted cheese is a rich and smoky favorite.

Whether you’re stopping in for ceviche and a michelada or a full seafood feast, the menu delivers authentic coastal flavors with serious personality

The Hermosa Beach Vibe

The new Hermosa Beach location seats about 80 guests and features a cozy, tavern-style interior with wooden booths and classic seafood-house charm.

Located just a short walk from the beach, it’s the perfect stop after a day in the sun or a casual dinner while exploring Hermosa’s lively downtown area.

Why Coni’Seafood Is Worth the Visit

What makes Coni’Seafood stand out isn’t just the food, it’s the story behind it. Generations of the Cossio family have helped build the restaurant into a beloved LA institution while keeping the flavors of Nayarit alive.

Now, with its new South Bay location, locals have an exciting new spot to enjoy some of the best Mexican seafood in Los Angeles.

If you’re craving fresh ceviche, grilled fish, and bold coastal flavors, Coni’Seafood in Hermosa Beach should definitely be on your list.
